Mission Statement

The Women's Housing Coalition is dedicated to breaking the cycle of homelessness by increasing the quantity and quality of affordable housing and by fostering the economic and social independence of homeless and low income women and their families. Founded in 1979 the Women’s Housing Coalition is a grassroots, non-profit organization that has been at the forefront in the development of housing opportunities and services to low-income and homeless women with disabilities. The WHC was instrumental in founding the first emergency shelter for women in Baltimore, the first Transitional Housing Program for women in Baltimore City, and the first Single Room Occupancy (SRO) for women in Maryland, which has become a national model for low-income, special needs housing. The Women’s Housing Coalition serves on average 65 women at one time through its Traditional and Permanent Housing Program, Scattered Site and Family Program.
