A Key of One’s Own comes at a pivotal moment for housing stability in Baltimore. Permanent housing support for formerly homeless people—most of whom are living with serious mental illnesses and/or substance use disorders, often alongside co-occurring and chronic physical health conditions—is facing urgent, even existential, challenges from changing federal housing priorities and drastic funding cuts. WHC, like other providers, is impacted by reduced reimbursement levels, delayed renewals, unrealistic cost assumptions, and policy shifts, all of which are placing real pressure on our ability to sustain the safe, stable housing and individualized services our residents rely on every day.
For nearly five decades, you – our donors, our supporters – have stood with WHC beside women, children, and other vulnerable individuals in Baltimore, providing not only permanent housing, but also case management, healthcare connections, and the practical support needed to remain housed and move forward into greater health, well-being, and independence.
Today, our mission needs your support more than ever. Your sponsorship of and/or ticket purchases for A Key of One’s Own are meaningful investments in continuity, dignity, and hope that directly benefit the women, children, and men living in our homes.
At a time of deep uncertainty, your partnership helps ensure that those most at risk are not pushed back into homelessness simply because critical systems and federal funding are failing them.
As always, we warmly thank you for your support.
