There will also be a silent auction of new and gently used fine handbags to benefit The Women’s Housing Coalition at the historic Margaret Bennett House. \nHerstory: Margaret Bennett\nIn 1902\, a wealthy Baltimore widow named Margaret Bennett left $150\,000 to establish a boarding house for needy young women who came alone to work in Baltimore as nurses\, teachers\, and shopgirls. Today\, adjusted for inflation\, her gift would have been worth more than five million dollars. It was enough at the time to buy a grand Greek Revival townhouse in Mount Vernon and maintain it for over 100 years. Today the Margaret Bennett House has been lovingly restored to its original grandeur and is now home to 30 formerly unhoused women. \nWe think Margaret would approve. \nOrganizer\n\n \n Linda C.
