EveryBODY Gym Opening

Health is one of the major factors in correlating getting and maintaining a job. Health and wellness is also one of the hardest things to manage when you are homeless.

With these two thoughts in mind, the Women’s Housing Coalition launched an exciting new program at the beginning of June with the opening of two gyms and associated programming for all of our residents. Our two staged launch included a ribbon cutting on Friday, June 3rd and a full day of launch activities for residents on Saturday, June 4th. It was an exciting weekend here at the Women’s Housing Coalition as you can see in the facebook photo album by clicking here.

We have named the gyms EveryBODY. This is a fun way to remind our residents that it is for everybody and for every body. The gym boasts lightly used commercial grade weight training and aerobic equipment and an already published 12 months of educational and motivational activities for our residents to participate in. Residents who participate in the monthly activity/challenge will also be eligible for a monthly prize drawing. Each resident who signs up will also get a free consultation with a personal trainer to help them develop a personalized training program according to their goals, health and physical abilities.

We were thrilled to have a representative of one of our generous funders with us at the ribbon cutting who got to see equipment demonstrations and was walked through all the aspects of the health/wellness program. We will continue to update you on this exciting initiative and our partners in future issues of the newsletter.

Thanks to the Greenberg, Campbell and REVAL Foundations for funding to create the wellness programming, renovate the 2 buildings and purchase the necessary equipment for our WHC EveryBODY Gyms. Thanks to Jerome Gray for the architectural planning to create the space for our ladies. Thanks to RAM Contracting for doing all the demo and renovation work to create our EveryBODY Gyms. Thanks to Activate Body for leading the training and planning for the gym program to ensure that it keeps the safety and success of our residents at the forefront.
