Welcome to “Inside the House”, the Women's Housing Coalition’s blog which chronicles the lives of five women in our program; Laura, Juanita, Malaya, Heather, and Billie.
Though not their real names, these ladies will post every day in some combination (except weekends) until December 31, 2010. You will experience their joy and sadness, successes and failures, happiness and frustration, as they work toward becoming self-sufficient individuals.
As you follow their lives this year, we hope you will gain some insight into the courage and strength that all of our residents must put forth each day to reclaim their lives.
I had a very interesting week. Between jogging doctors appointments and baby setting for my grandchildren, I was able to talk to some of my friends and family.
Heather’s Blog – A friend recently had an operation so I’ve been cooking for three lately. I made a delicious Szechuan Shrimp and Broccoli Stir Fry and thought I’d share the recipe.

Hi Friends,
Sorry about being late this week as I was having a lot of problems with my legs and feet swelling more than usual, so I was trying to keep my feet elevated as much as I could. (bummer) So needless to say I was not a happy camper. My family is coming over from the Islands for the holiday so that means a nice long visit I hope. Its not like I can walk up the road to visit them anymore. So I am really looking forward to seeing the new members in my family and taking a lot of pictures. Tell you all about it next week. Malaya
Hello my friends! This week I've been reading and knitting up a storm! As you know, I've set a goal to knit 20 scarfs during the summer. The summer is just begun and I think I well exceed my goal! So far, I've knitted 15 scarfs.
On Sunday my twin nieces, who are members of the Baltimore Youth Orchestra, performed in a concert at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. They both play the viola. It was very exciting to see them play in such a grand venue.
After the concert the family gathered at one of my sister’s home for a barbecue. I brought Watergate salad, which was a big hit. I made a few adjustments to the standard recipe.
