Welcome to “Inside the House”, the Women's Housing Coalition’s blog which chronicles the lives of five women in our program; Laura, Juanita, Malaya, Heather, and Billie.
Though not their real names, these ladies will post every day in some combination (except weekends) until December 31, 2010. You will experience their joy and sadness, successes and failures, happiness and frustration, as they work toward becoming self-sufficient individuals.
As you follow their lives this year, we hope you will gain some insight into the courage and strength that all of our residents must put forth each day to reclaim their lives.

Last Friday I went to a pot-luck dinner at the home of one of my high school classmates. Hors d’oeuvres included stuffed grape leaves and imported cheeses and crackers. For dinner we had grilled chicken, tabbouleh, bread, and a corn salsa.
For dessert I made Darn Good Chocolate Cake (for recipe see Heather’s Blog for June 24, 2010). With it we had Vanilla Bean Ice Cream with Raspberry Sauce. I garnished the plates with fresh raspberries.

A few days ago a friend and I went thrift shopping at one of my favorite haunts—Value Village Thrift on York Road in Govans. I scored two brand new short-sleeved cotton cable-knit sweaters. My friend found a beautiful woven tablecloth, sandals, and some glasses. Bargain hunting is such a satisfying pastime.
Hello, my friends! I had another wonderful week with my family. We all went to Ocean City for the day. My grandkids had fun on the beach. Everyone had a good time. My son's family went home to Florida on Thursday. I'll miss them so much.
Everything is going fine. I refuse to think about next month. As I said last week, it will take care of it self. So, for now I am enjoying myself and I will talk to you next week.
Hello friends! This week has been fantastic! The depression has lifted and I am flying high with excitement! My 2 grandsons arrived from Florida on Monday and their parents will be here today. I now have 5 little ones to take care of this week!
I had a nice change of pace at work on Monday. I volunteered to help out at the Center’s golf tournament fund raiser. At noon there was a nice lunch for the players and helpers. For most of the afternoon I rode around on a golf cart handing out cold beverages to the players. It was lots of fun—until a thunderstorm rolled in suddenly. Being out in the open on a golf
A friend recently had an operation so I’ve been cooking for three lately. I made a delicious Szechuan Shrimp and Broccoli Stir Fry and thought I’d share the recipe.
The House is holding its July 4th picnic this weekend. We are expecting 50 people! I’m making brownies and Darn Good Chocolate Cake. I know a lot of people will want this recipe.
Here it is:
Hello my friends. It is good to talk to you again. The emotional roller coater I found myself on last week has come to a stop. My depression is stabilized. I feel better and I'm able to think clearly.
