Last weekend I went up to Pennsylvania where I used to live to see a dear friend.
 
It's still painful to go back to my former hometown.  There are so many memories of my husband and our happier family days.
 
However, my friend and I had a pleasant lunch at Olive Garden.  It was nice to catch up.

I recently got SSDI and qualified for Medicare.  I was relieved thinking that I finally had good medical coverage.  Not so fast.
 
I previously had PAC which covered my primary physician's visits and had a very affordable prescription plan.  However, it did not include hopitalization.  I once paid more than $5,000 for a brief hospital stay.  Ouch!

Heather’s Blog – August 14, 2010

Not much to report other than that I had another productive week at work.

I’ve been enjoying this season of America’s Got Talent.  This week’s contestants included 10-year-old Jackie Evancho. She sang Puccini and was amazing. As judge Piers said, she sang like an angel. Her singing gave me goose bumps.  She reminded me of Charlotte Church. Some people are calling her the new Susan Boyle.  Even if she doesn’t win the competition, she is sure to have an amazing career in front of her.

Last Friday I went to a pot-luck dinner at the home of one of my high school classmates.  Hors d’oeuvres included stuffed grape leaves and imported cheeses and crackers.  For dinner we had grilled chicken, tabbouleh, bread, and a corn salsa.

For dessert I made Darn Good Chocolate Cake (for recipe see Heather’s Blog for June 24, 2010).  With it we had Vanilla Bean Ice Cream with Raspberry Sauce.  I garnished the plates with fresh raspberries.
