I had a nice change of pace at work on Monday. I volunteered to help out at the Center’s golf tournament fund raiser. At noon there was a nice lunch for the players and helpers. For most of the afternoon I rode around on a golf cart handing out cold beverages to the players. It was lots of fun—until a thunderstorm rolled in suddenly. Being out in the open on a golf course is not where you want to be in the middle of a thunderstorm. I must admit I was scared. All the golfers and I made a beeline for the clubhouse. The storm broke and play resumed until a second storm passed through. In the evening there was a lovely buffet dinner with carved roast beef, a hot seafood pasta dish, a medley of delicious vegetables, and mashed potatoes. For dessert there was an ice cream sundae bar. During the dinner there was a live auction and a silent auction. It was a very successful day and the Center raised much needed funds to do its work in serving Baltimore’s urban poor
