Last Saturday we started a knitting class. I hadn’t knitted in more than 45 years. I wasn’t very good at it then and got frustrated with it.
Our first project is a scarf. I picked a pretty royal blue yarn with a nubby texture. Fortunately, the texture is forgiving so if you drop a stitch, it’s not too visible. I’m determined to finish this project.
I have really enjoyed watching the Olympics. The ice dancing competition was beautiful. The Canadian pair Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, who won the pairs competition, was elegant and stylish. But I thought the American pairs Meryl Davis and Charlie White, Emily Samuelson and Evan Bates, and Tanith Belbin and Benjamin Agosto did America proud. One of my favorite performances was the Indian dance which Meryl Davis and Charlie White skated in the folk dance portion of the competition.
In the controversial men’s figure skating competition, Russian Yevgeny Pluskenko did a difficult quadruple jump; however Evan Lysacek of the U.S. skated a cleaner program.
In the women’s figure skating, what a heart-rending moment as Joanne Rochette of Canada skated her program after her mother’s untimely death. The Americans Rachel Flatt and Mirai Nagasu did well, but there’s no denying Kim Yu-Na of Korea’s star power. She really is a rock star on ice.
I love Apolo Ohno. He is such a great Olympian role model.
Sorry that Lindsey Vonn wiped out on the giant slolam, but she still has her gold medal for the women’s downhill.
I always enjoy seeing the athletes from different countries compete in a spirit of friendship and peace.
